Idlewild Maintenance Station Rehabilitation
Caltrans proposes to rehabilitate the Idlewild Maintenance Station in Del Norte County. The Idlewild Maintenance Station is located adjacent to U.S. Highway 199 at postmile (PM) 28.1 near Gasquet, California. The purpose of the project is to improve safety, functional capacity, and operational efficiency of the Idlewild Maintenance Station. The project is needed to provide the Idlewild maintenance staff a safe, secure, reliable, and comfortable work environment. The maintenance station is in a rural location at an elevation of 1230 feet and 24-hour shifts are normal during the winter season. Work would include construction of a new office, rehabilitation of the existing water and wastewater systems, and installation of a fire suppression system including a water tank and pumphouse. Other improvements include replacement of the perimeter fence, pavement of additional parking spaces, and electrical upgrades.
The maintenance station is located on Six Rivers National Forest land and operates under a Special Permit from the U.S. Forest Service. The Special Use Permit would be amended to include the proposed upgrades.
