Closure Necessary for Rock Scaling

SAN DIEGO — Caltrans construction crews will perform a full closure for State Route 67 (SR-67) in Ramona on Friday, November 18, from Chaparral Way to Cloudy Moon Drive to perform rock scaling.

Specialized crews will be working to remove a large boulder and loose rocks in the general area. In order for crews to perform the work, up to 15-minute rolling closures are planned between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

There is no detour for this work, so motorists should plan for additional travel time and plan accordingly for delays. The schedule is subject to change due to weather, traffic incidents, or other maintenance considerations.

This work is part of the SR-67 Pavement Rehabilitation Project, which will repair and improve 18 miles of travel way and shoulders on SR-67 from just north of the San Diego River Bridge in Lakeside to State Route 78 in Ramona. The work includes upgrading metal beam guardrails, repairing drainage culverts, and adding enhanced Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ramps.

Other project features include pavement markings at intersections as part of Complete Street– Enhanced crosswalk visibility, modifying existing signal systems and vehicle detection systems, and adding rumble stripes and traffic channelizers. The project is also installing a fiber optic cable system to serve as a digital backbone to enhance Caltrans traffic monitoring/ incident management and provide network capacity for future field devices and broadband connections for the rural communities along the route.

Motorists are reminded to be Work Zone Alert if traveling in the area and to watch for highway workers and moving construction equipment.

The construction schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions, traffic incidents, or other construction-related reasons.
