STOCKTON – Every single day, motorists traverse heavily used roadways across California, and Caltrans is doing everything in its power to make those trips safer, smoother and more efficient.

In the latest Caltrans News Flash, we discuss how we're reducing congestion through ramp metering.

Ramp metering uses traffic lights on on-ramps to help manage the flow of vehicles entering the highway and is being implemented on crowded corridors across the state, including State Route 99 in stretches of San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties.

With funding from Senate Bill 1, Caltrans will fix and upgrade 7,700 traffic operating systems across the state over the next decade.

In addition to traffic operating systems, SB 1 will also fix over 17,000 miles of pavement, 500 bridges and 55,000 culverts or drains.
