BISHOP - California taxpayers saved an estimated $17 million last year thanks to the tireless efforts of the state's Adopt-a-Highway volunteers. In this Caltrans News Flash, we meet a few Eastern Sierra Adopt-A-Highway (AAH) volunteers who discuss their participation in the program and their desire to keep their local communities beautiful.
Last year, more than 3,000 groups with an estimated 11,000 volunteers participated in the AAH Program, picking up over 10,000 cubic yards of litter from California's roadsides – enough to fill 650 garbage trucks.
Caltrans is always looking for new adopters and sponsors to become part of the solution. Interested new adopters and sponsors can call 1-866-ADOPT-A-HWY orvisit Caltrans' Adopt-A-Highway (AAH) Program page to learn how to become involved.
In recognition f Caltrans' Annual Litter Day and Earth Day, we thank all of Caltrans AAH volunteers and sponsors that join us every day in our commitment to keep California beautiful.
